Cheap last minute flights
Here’s the lowdown on how to get cheap last minute flights, and where’s best to go for an impulsive getaway.
To get the cheapest prices, be flexible! Search for different departure airports as prices can vary hugely between airports. For example, choose all London airports instead of London Heathrow, or compare prices from Manchester + Liverpool John Lennon + Leeds Bradford.
- Type your destination, or even anywhere, in the search box
- Type your departure airport or city in the search box
- Use the filters to set your maximum price per person
- Choose a country to see all flights that meet your criteria
- Select the destination and date you fancy
- Choose your flight, and upgrade your fare to add baggage
- Finally, add travel insurance, car parking, car hire - and a hotel if you like
Things to check before you fly
Prepare for your tripDo you need a visa?
Some countries require visitors to have a visa, e-visa or tourist card before they can enter. If this is the case, make sure you have enough time to sort all the paperwork before your flight.
Do you need any vaccinations?
If you’re going somewhere tropical, you may need some inoculations before you go. If you’re flying last minute, check you’ve left yourself enough time for vaccinations.
When does your passport expire?
Some destinations require your passport to be valid for six months after you arrive. Check your passport before you book, as you may not be able to get a new one in time.
Do you have valid travel insurance?
With any trip, you should have travel insurance – and flying last minute is no different. If you don’t have insurance, it’s best to get this sorted as soon as possible.
Have you downloaded your airline's app?
Keep track of your flight with your airline’s app. You can check in with the touch of a button, and your boarding pass will be ready to go on your phone.
Foreign currency
If you exchange your currency at the airport, you’ll usually get a poor rate. It’s best to get your cash before you travel, or load some money on to a multi-currency card.
