When to go
The best time of the year to find cheap flights to Dallas is between September and November, when the tourist crowds have calmed down, it isn’t swelteringly hot, and the State Fair of Texas with its live bands and car show is in full swing.
The summer months, between June and August, are high season for flights to Dallas, which means rodeos, baseball games and festivals. The mercury can soar to 45 degrees Celsius and high humidity makes it feel even hotter.
Rain tends to fall hardest in September and October, while the coldest month is January, with average temperatures of six degrees Celsius. Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW)
Dallas Fort Worth, or DFW for short, is one of the largest and busiest airports in the world. Located 17 miles north-west of the city centre, it has five terminals, with a sixth on its way. Dallas Love Field Airport (DAL)
Seven miles northwest of downtown Dallas, Dallas Love Field is the city’s original airport. The Main Terminal is where passengers check in for all departures. Getting around the airports
At DFW, travellers can hop on the Skylink or the Terminal Link Shuttle to move quickly between the five terminals. The Skylink train runs every two minutes, while the Terminal Link Shuttle buses run every ten minutes. Both are free to use. Dallas Love Field is much more compact, but you can pick up a DAL Main Terminal map and find everything you need, from the Pet Park to the Lil Luv’ Lounge.
Getting to the city from the airports
Both Dallas airports have a number of transport options to reach the city. These include car rental, private car service and taxis, as well as the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) rail service. The DART is an easy and cheap way to get around Dallas car-free, and information is available at the airports to get you to your final destination.
