When to go
There is little seasonal fluctuation in the price of Houston flights, although you may be able to find great last-minute flights in the summer as this is the time that Houston residents are most likely to head elsewhere as temperatures climb.
Houston is warm throughout the year, and the summers can be very hot with temperatures averaging over 30 degrees Celsius. The more temperate yet still warm autumn or spring months get our vote for the best weather to holiday in. However, with around 204 days of sunshine per year, you can look out for last-minute flights at any time of the year and gloat about your shorts to your friends back home.
To enjoy the city during festival time, book your return flights in May to coincide with the annual Dragon Boat Racing festival. Admission is free and there is plenty of entertainment going on throughout the city in 2024 / 2025.

Getting around the airport
As Houston only has one terminal, getting around it is very easy. It is newly built and spacious and (it will come as no surprise) full of art. The volunteer airport ambassadors are full of helpful information and can point you in the right direction. They are easy to spot with their red shirts and can be found throughout the airport.
Getting to the city from the airport
Car is king in Houston, and car rentals are easily found from the terminal building. However alternative public transport into the city is also readily available. Try hopping on the bus, after you have hopped off your flight. Courtesy vans which are operated by many hotels and motels often come to collect visitors from the airport. Alternatively, take the SuperShuttle, a shared-ride service which works out much cheaper than a taxi.
Don't forget before you fly
