Alberta - Shopping
Unlike other Canadian provinces, Alberta doesn’t charge sales tax – meaning that prices are automatically around 10% lower than anywhere else. Alberta also provides some of the most attractive shopping opportunities in Canada.
Edmonton’s massive West Edmonton Mall includes upwards of 800 shops and about a hundred cafés and restaurants. For a more relaxed experience, hunt for antiques and artisan products in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona neighbourhood. For high fashion, you can’t beat Calgary’s Stephen Avenue, with its trendy boutiques and galleries. If you’re in downtown Calgary, also visit The Core with its glass atrium ceiling and the fashionable Bankers Hall, Chinatown also provides a wealth of interesting souvenirs and bargains.
