You will get heavy downpours at this time of year, but there are definitely nice days to be had. If you'd prefer a balance of sunny weather and good prices then flying during March, April or May would be a great alternative. There'll probs be some good hotel deals to be had too.

When is the best time to book flights to Koh Samui?

If you're looking for a good deal, it’s best to book your Koh Samui flights at least three or four months before departure. Plus, you'll be able to secure your chosen departure dates. If you can be flexible on dates for your Thailand holiday, there are often great deals on last-minute flights to Koh Samui. Before booking, make sure you check the date of the monthly Full Moon Party on neighbouring island, Koh Phangan, as this could affect the Thailand flight prices.

Flying to Samui Airport (USM)

Samui Airport (USM) is on the Gulf Island of Koh Samui, but it serves the surrounding smaller islands as well. Flying to Samui Airport from the UK is only possible when you fly indirectly via Bangkok, Hong Kong or Singapore. But you've got plenty of airlines to choose from, with flights offered by Qantas, EVA Air, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines. You can fly to Koh Samui from London Gatwick, London Heathrow or Manchester with just one stopover. Flights are also available from other UK airports with Etihad, Qatar Airways, British Airways and Turkish Airlines, but these alternative routes have multiple stopovers.

On arrival and getting around the airport

Upon arrival at Samui Airport, you'll immediately notice that it's not your average airport. With an open-air design and tropical gardens, the airport serves as an introduction to the island's many stunning beach resorts. The main shopping area within the terminal is located on an arcade-style street and houses duty-free and travel retail shops, a variety of restaurants and cafes, along with a newsagent’s and a local souvenir shop.

Getting to your hotel from Samui Airport (USM)

Just two kilometres from the city centre, Samui Airport is extremely quick and cheap to get to. Due to the island’s small size and lack of public transportation, the only way to get to and from the airport is via car or minibus, whether privately hired, shared or rented. Access to all of these services can be found in the arrivals terminal or, if you prefer, you can book online beforehand.

Why visit Koh Samui?

Have you ever wondered what it might feel like to sit on a beach with a cold beer, watching the sun set over the Gulf of Thailand, before heading out for an authentic Thai meal? Visit Koh Samui, and you’ll never have to wonder again. Coconut trees and sandy beaches make up most of the island, with first-class hotels, scenic dining and fascinating markets occupying the rest.
If you’re feeling up to it, you can jump on a boat and explore the surrounding islands – Koh Tao is one of the best snorkelling spots in the world. But no one would blame you for trying out local delicacies, like massaman curry and tempura prawns, from the privacy of your own beach villa. Want something a little livelier? The Full Moon Party is the place to be. Take a boat to Koh Phangan and dance the night away with thousands of other party-goers.
