Do I need to re-check-in my bags?
For any connecting flight purchased and travelling with the same airline throughout, once checked in at the departure point your baggage should be checked through to your final destination without the need for you to collect it.
There are a few occasions which might require you to collect your baggage and re-check-in before connecting.
1. Immigration authorities require this at your first point of entry to a country. Travel to the USA for example requires all passengers to reclaim their baggage for security and checking purposes prior to onward connecting travel.
2. Travelling on a through ticket involving multiple airlines. In most instances, alliance partners such as British Airways and American Airlines (BA - AA) or Virgin Atlantic and Delta Air Lines (VS - DL) work as part of code-sharing agreements and as such will check baggage to your final destination. If you are travelling with multiple airlines such as BA - VS where no agreement exists then you will need to recheck your baggage for your connecting flight.
3. You are travelling a separate tickets (applicable to additional flight purchases usually purchased independently to connect with other flights unless all travelling with the same carrier).
