Cheapest time to fly to London Gatwick (LGW)

As with all flights, flight prices to London Gatwick will vary throughout 2024 / 2025. There is always a bargain to be found and some great last-minute deals, but generally the cheapest time to travel to the buzzing metropolis that is London is during February and March. Flight prices will increase at certain times, for example during the holidays, but if you are looking for a budget weekend away then February could be the month for you.

Flying to London Gatwick

London Gatwick (LGW) is around 30 miles outside of central London. It is the second-busiest airport in the UK, beaten only by London Heathrow. LGW has two terminals, north and south. The south terminal caters to the majority of the traffic in the airport and the north terminal is known as the hub for EasyJet flights, both offering a variety of direct and indirect flights to all major international airports. The south terminal, as it caters to the majority of customers, is the best option for shopping and for a bite to eat.

On arrival and getting around LGW

Gatwick has two terminals. The two terminals are roughly a mile apart and are connected by an easily accessible shuttle. Although it is important to check which terminal you are flying out of, if you find yourself with extra time, you could head to the south terminal for a spot of shopping and some food as it takes less than ten minutes to get between the two.

Getting to the city from the airport

There are plenty of options for getting from London Gatwick to Central London. And, with the introduction of contactless payments for the London Underground, it’s easier than ever to get into the city. The easiest and fastest way to get into London is to take the Gatwick Express, a 30-minute non-stop train service that runs every fifteen minutes to Victoria station. EasyBus is a cheaper way to travel, offering a transfer from as low as £2. They also run a direct service, with a journey time of about an hour, with equally low prices at certain times low. Other options include the National Express bus service with a journey time of around 1.5-2 hours, and taxis.
