Unique cities
Exploring the city life of Brazil is a wild ride. In Rio de Janeiro, take the cable car up to Sugarloaf Mountain and get a bird’s eye view of Brazil. Spend some time is Tijuca National Park and visit the 38-metre statue of Christ the Redeemer. This coastal city offers plenty of ornate cathedrals, beautiful botanical gardens and pristine beaches. The celebration of Carnival in Rio is the biggest and most well-known in the country. Enjoy live music, street performers, dancing, elaborate costumes, and authentic food and drink all week long. The largest city in Brazil is Sao Paulo and it is the powerhouse of the country. A culturally rich city and a concrete jungle, you can spend hours passing through countless museums, shopping in boutiques, attending the theatre, or catching a football match. The eighth largest city, Curitiba, is often missed on the tourist trail. Known as the “Model City” for its organisation and cleanliness, Curitiba is strikingly serene compared with its larger counterparts. Check out the Historic District and pay homage to Oscar Niemeyer. There is also an abundance of parks within the city limits and woods on the outskirts when you are ready for some countryside.
Nature unlike anywhere else in the world
Brazil is much more than just La Pindorama or The Land of the Palms. With over 2,000 varieties of tree, the Amazon rainforest covers over half of this large country. It is home to wild and unique insects, birds, mammals, and reptiles and is said to be the most diverse ecosystem in the world. In the west, the Pantanal is a vast, flat marsh featuring an intricate system of lagoons and small islands. You can explore the Iguaçu National Park where Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina meet. You will enter the land that houses thousands of birds, otters, ocelots, frogs, butterflies, and the rare capybara.
When to go
Most of Brazil is in the southern hemisphere and so the seasons are reversed. The winter months of June and July are wonderful for the beaches of the Green Coast. The best months to visit the Pantanal are September and October when spring is just beginning.
Brazil’s peak season starts the week before Christmas and lasts until late February or early March for Carnival. During this time you will find that flights and accommodation are at an all-time high.
Other high times in Brazil are Easter week and August, when North Americans and we Europeans take our summer holidays. Be sure to plan well ahead of time when booking trips during these times as flight and accommodation prices will be high.

Most travellers fly into Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro and then venture further afield based on their itineraries. Prices are highest from the middle of December until late February or March so early booking of flights to Brazil is highly recommended.
Many airlines use stopovers in Europe before making their way to Brazil. Carriers that fly to Brazil include Air Canada, Lufthansa, Air Europa, KLM, and Copa Airlines. Don’t just stick around in the airport in you refuelling city. Simply make your holiday a multi-city one and explore one of the stopover cities like Amsterdam, Madrid or Paris.
