When to go
Peak travel times last from December to February and then from May to September; flight costs will often rise to meet the increased demand. The festive period can be a great time to visit Malaysia with Christmas and the Chinese New Year both falling around only a few weeks apart.
March to June is considered the low season. Although March can experience heavy rains and flash floods, this time is usually the driest part of the year. It should be noted that until at least 2022, Ramadan will occur during the low season. Prices will often be lower before the busy summer rush, making these few months an excellent time to visit Malaysia.
If you’re visiting Malaysia to hike, March to early October will be the best time to plan your trip. With less rain and lower humidity levels, you can expect to be slightly more comfortable as you hit the trails. Departures in April or October are likely to give you the best deal on airfares as it falls on either side of Malaysia’s mid-year peak.
Airlines and airports
If you’re not set on your travel dates, then use Netflights’ handy calendar feature. Use it to compare the best deals and offers across the whole month on flights to Kuala Lumpur from major United Kingdom (UK) airports. Alternatively, if you’d like to arrive at a different airport, use the table at the top of the results page to sort the best price for return flights by airline.
Most flights to Malaysia from the UK will require a transfer somewhere in Europe, the Middle East or Asia. Direct Malaysia flights are available out of London Heathrow, but this can cost more than a flight with connections. Carriers include British Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Emirates, KLM, Etihad Airways and Finnair.
To save money on your flights, we recommend booking your tickets well in advance. Some airlines will release their tickets up to 12 months prior to departure, so it might be possible to snag some early-bird deals. Additionally, mid-week departures tend to have the lowest price.
