Winter sports in Dubai
With glistening waters, white sand beaches and heat perfectly designed for tanning, Dubai is the ultimate holiday for those looking to relax in the sun.
But something else Dubai is great for, aside from shopping and pampering, is its sport – its winter sporting activities in particular.
However not one to do things by half measure, there are multiple ways to enjoy winter sport in Dubai – both as a spectator and a participator.

If winter sports are something you love, then don’t let the desert surroundings of Dubai fool you. You can enjoy the relaxing beach days as well as fun filled winter activities, most often attributed to the Alps.
This is all down to the 22,500 square metres of year-round real snow, which sits inside the magnificent Ski Dubai; itself residing in the equally impressive Mall of the Emirates. Perfect for skiers of all levels, this is the ideal place to try something different from the daily dip in the pool.
Being the equivalent size of three football fields you can take advantage of the five different runs, which all vary in height and gradient, with the longest being 400 metres. With a capacity of up to 1,500, there’s skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing. You can even explore your own style in the freestyle area.
To really add to the arctic feel there’s even a small colony of 20 king and Gentoo penguins to observe. Children can also take advantage of the interactive snow park – which is largest indoor snow park in the world at 3,000 square metres.

However we know most people like to relax and unwind on holiday, rather than partake in sporting activities. Luckily Dubai has plenty of sports for you to go and see during winter in the UAE.
Dubai’s winter, or cooler weather, falls between the months of October and March, which is when the winter sporting activity takes place. It’s during these months that the Dubai Camel Racing season kicks off at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse in South-East Dubai; so if you want racing that’s a little different, there’s plenty going on. There’s also the Rugby Sevens in November, at the Sevens Stadium on the outskirts of the city.
Alongside this, fans of golf will be well-catered for with the Dubai Classic taking place in February – all the biggest golfing names will descend upon the Emirates Golf Club. It isn’t just the stars of the golfing world that flock here in February, as the Dubai Tennis Championships sees the world’s biggest tennis stars battling it out on court.
