How to holiday like James Bond

Call me Bond, James Bond. You may find yourself repeating this famous phrase as you travel the world as James Bond does in the movies. You may not be suave and debonair, and you may not be chasing the world’s most dangerous villains, but hey, you can still lap up some serious luxury like the man himself. From Dr. No to the new film, Skyfall, there’s no limit to the places you can go.

Dr. No, Falmouth, Jamaica

Though the swamp scenes were filmed here in Dr. No, Falmouth is a place of crisp, blue waters, palm trees, and sunshine. Step aboard the Oasis of the Seas, a luxury cruise ship which is part of the Royal Caribbean International fleet and the second-largest cruise ship in the world. Find an oasis on the ship and in the port of Falmouth as you sip tropical drinks and consider Dr. No’s next diabolical move. You might as well get a tan while you’re planning your strategy against a formidable enemy.

Diamonds are Forever, Atibes, France

Some parts of this film were shot in various locations in Europe, such as the opening scene in Antibes, France. Situated on the French Riviera, this Mediterranean city was founded by the Greeks over 2000 years ago and offers stunning views of the sea and has an old-world charm James Bond could appreciate. Imagine pursuing villains and ducking back to your room in the luxurious Cap d’Antibes Beach Hotel for a romantic evening with your special Bond girl. Blofeld can wait a while.

For Your Eyes Only, Corfu, Greece

There’s nothing like taking a holiday on a Greek island, and Corfu, the town used in the film representing a Spanish villa, is no exception. Many of the houses were painted white for filming, but today you’ll find many with a pastel façade that blends beautifully into the surrounding landscape. Stay at the Corfu Luxury Villas where you’ll have your own private beach and marina in a romantic setting. Be careful who you get chummy with. The main villain of this film, Aristotle Kristatos, appears to be a good guy until later in the film. Those pesky antagonists can be quite devious, can’t they?

GoldenEye, Laguna Tortuguero Beach, Manatí, Puerto Rico

This beautiful area served as the backdrop for a serious talk between Bond and Natalya after discovering that another spy, 006 Alec Trevelyan, had become an enemy. The lagoon is part of a nature reserve with swamps, marshes, hills, and silica sands. Surrounding areas contain many springs, lakes, and rivers. Stay at the Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar on the beach in nearby Dorado where you’ll immerse yourself in luxury before heading out to the marshes and swamps to get closer to nature. Bond would probably think it the perfect spot to dispose of Trevelyan. The fish wouldn’t mind.

Skyfall, Istanbul, Turkey

The latest James Bond movie includes filming in Istanbul, Turkey. This ancient city is one of the largest in the world and one of the most beautiful. Bond could get lost here while tracking down cyber terrorist Raoul Silva. But a Bond has to relax and take a load off and the Ciragan Palace Kempinski Istanbul offers luxury in spades. Even the rooms seem to have been decorated with Bond in mind. The last Ottoman Sultans lived here, so it only seems natural that James Bond would take up residence for a while.

Unleash your inner James Bond as you travel the world. This list will set you on the right path for fighting evil with style. Or you can just work on the style part.
