Spring Break are usually the first words that pop into people’s minds when they think ‘Cancun nightlife’. Every April, Cancun, a small city on the Yucatán Peninsula, fills with party people looking for a good time in the bars and clubs under the Mexican sun.
There are more than 40 clubs in Cancun and many, many more bars, so it pays to do a bit of research into finding the right one for your needs.
- Best for… music
If you want big name DJs on your Cancun holiday you’ll need to save a night for The City. The likes of Steve Aoki, Diplo, Avicii and Tiesto have all spun here in the past. No wonder 7,000 people pile in here on a big night.
- Best for… the dance floor
The best thing about the dance floor at Mandala is that it’s open air. You can party under the stars without the usual sweaty nightclub atmosphere. Shop around beforehand and get a drinks and VIP service package and you won’t have to worry about finding a space, or buying a drink all night. And you can always jump in the pool to cool off come sunrise.
- Best for… budget drinks
Pay $30 to get in Congo Bar and you get free drinks all night; although, you’ll need to tip your server if you want them to get back to you. Most places along the main strip charge upwards of $50. You’ll need to be prepared for crazy dancing, all night music and one wild night at the Congo Bar.
- Best for… atmosphere
In Cancun you’ll see promotions for Senor Frogs everywhere. Follow them. Senor Frogs is a fun bar with staff who like to entertain and a light hearted, up for a laugh crowd, rather than any sort of super exclusive vibe. Everyone’s invited to have fun at Senor Frogs. Keep an eye out for the regular foam party nights for a night out in Cancun with something a little different.
- Best for…. gay nightlife
The oldest and biggest gay nightclub in Cancun is Karamba. The recent swanky renovations have made it all the more popular and all kinds of people flock to the nightly drag shows or karaoke go go boys. The capacity here is 450 so expect a friendly and sociable night with all your newfound friends.
- Best for… the pre drinks
To survive a night of partying in Cancun you’ll need to line your stomach first. The Hard Rock Café is a brilliant OTT ode to film and television where you can enjoy an American / Mexican menu, and a whole list of cocktails to get you in the partying mood.
- Best for… the entertainment
Coco Bongo is one of the craziest clubs around. Expect to end the night dancing on the bar with an aerial entertainment show taking place above you. You’ll see the likes of ‘The Mask’, ‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘The Beatles’ showing off their skills in the sky.
