International-picnic

To celebrate National Picnic Week, we’ve searched far and wide to find the best places for you to lay down your blanket, enjoy a homemade banquet and take in some beautiful surroundings. From awe-inspiring views of Athens’ ancient landmarks to tranquil beaches of Aruba, there are so many locations that are perfect for dining al fresco.

Philopappos Hill, Athens

A stunning promenade situated in the south west of the Acropolis of Athens, a picnic here will allow you to soak up some culture as you look down over ancient buildings and great architecture. With amazing views away from the chaos of the city, you can enjoy many peaceful hours simply enjoying your surroundings. After lunch, take a walk along the many trails and look out onto the sea in the distance. You will have to walk for an hour or so to reach the hill, so make sure your picnic is filled with bottles of water to keep you going!

Mangel Halto Beach, Aruba

Located in the village of Pos Chiquito on the southwestern coast of Aruba, Mangel Halto Beach can easily be described as paradise. With vast stretches of silky white sands lining the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, you’ll be in awe of your surroundings from the moment you arrive. Warm shallow waters welcome you to partake in snorkelling to discover the incredible sea life, or explore the boat wreck that lies about 30 feet beneath the water. Make sure to pack enough snacks to last you the whole day, as you won’t want to miss watching the sunset as your day draws to an end.

Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo

Ibirapuera Park is the perfect escape from the vibrant streets of São Paulo. One of the largest parks in the area, it’s certainly a picnic hotspot. Set up camp beside one of its lakes, where you can spend time feeding the ducks and catching some sun rays. Quite the opposite of the urban scenes of the city, Ibirapuera offers you a tranquil setting, perfect for when a break from exploring and sightseeing is in order. With 2 square kilometres of park to discover, you can certainly make a day of it.

Parc la Fontaine, Montreal

Parc la Fontaine is the type of place you’d typically image enjoying a picnic; abundant with luscious greenery, tree-lined pathways and peaceful ponds, it’s one of the most beautiful spots to admire nature in Montreal. Covering 84 acres, lay your picnic blanket down and watch the wildlife, before exploring the park along its bike paths and trails, taking those must-have snaps in front of its stunning water fountains, or visiting Théâtre de Verdure, situated within the park, to watch one of the free performances. With so much to do, and with so little money required, you can easily while away the hours here.
